ontologies
Sample ONTOLOGIES from the SWAT Project

Below are ontologies created for the SWAT project. We are developing ontologies in the Web Ontology Language (OWL) that are formal and axiomatically rich; the kinds of ontology for which a natural language based editing tool could have great benefit.
We provide different versions of each ontology. You can follow how the ontologies change from version 1 to their current version.

These ontologies are built under Alan Rector's upper ontology. Later on, we'll also re-cast these ontologies under the Basic formal Ontology (BFO).

Travel Ontology

explanation:

travel V26: This version solved inconsistent problem from travel V25.
travel V25: This version replaced object property "occupy" of travel with "occupies" of upper ontology and replaced "isOccupied" of travel with "is_occupied_by" of upper ontology, but it then appeared to inconsistent.
travel V24: This version changed object property "occupies" to "occupy" to avoid duplicate with upper ontology.
travel V23: This version removed redundant object property "hasMember" and "isMemberOf" from travel ontology.
travel V22: This version tidied up some classes to under the upper ontology classes.
travel V21: This version tidied fragment URI into its proper URI.
travel V20: This version replaced object property "playsRole" with upper ontology's "plays_role".
travel V19: This version replaced object property "isMemberOf" with upper ontology's " isMemberIslandOf."
travel V18: This version is a copy from v17.
